2017 Kia Cadenza Staten Island, New York
Island Kia located in Staten Island, New York has tons of the 2017 Kia Cadenza on the lot to select from! Nestled between the top-of-the-line rear-drive Kia K900 and the midsize front-drive Kia Optima is the front-drive Cadenza. Kia completely redesigned the Cadenza for 2017; it gets an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission and a larger, more plush interior, as well as a lighter and somewhat stiffer platform. Not quite as big or luxurious as the K900, the 2017 Cadenza gets updates to make it more upscale, more mature, and more refined. The revised Cadenza’s styling and features-list make a fantastic argument for bridge luxury. The car is the same length as its predecessor though the wheelbase has been extended by 0.4 inches, the entire car has been lowered by 0.2 inches, and widened by nearly an inch. The extension of the character line along the body makes it look taut, and inside there’s one cubic foot of extra interior space, with rear passengers benefiting from an extra 0.4 inches of legroom.
Some trim levels come standard with a comprehensive suite of automatic safety and driver-assist technologies, including forward-collision warning, emergency braking, lane-departure warning and assist and a blind spot monitoring system. Some of these are options on the entry-level grade. Seven airbags, including a driver-side knee-bolster bag, are standard across the Cadenza lineup.
As for technology, there’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an excellent Harman/Kardon audio system that blew our ears away. The cruise control and blind-spot warnings all worked well, although we never felt a “nudge” from the advanced blind spot system that will actively prevent you from switching lanes into another car. Interestingly there’s no lane-keeping assist function, just a lane drift warning that on our car at least, was set way too sensitive; we’ll chalk it up to early-production calibration.
