Compare the 2020 Kia Soul & the Jeep Renegade
Subcompact crossovers are the hot-ticket item of the past several years, nearly doubling their sales since they first came to be earlier this decade. While the field is thick with competitors, two of the most charismatic contenders are the Kia Soul and the Jeep Renegade. Both of these offer a variety of benefits, but only one can come out on top. Let’s take a deeper look at what they have to offer.
The Soul and Renegade differ slightly in design outlook. As a Jeep, the Renegade is more suited to outdoor adventuring and is geared towards muddy and dirty endeavors. Its standard 180-horsepower four-cylinder provides enough power for it to grind over rough terrain while the chassis has enough clearance to make it over minor obstacles. Conversely, the Soul is engineered specifically to cruise city streets. Featuring an available 200 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Soul has ample acceleration and handles excellently on the street.
Inside the cabin, the Soul and Renegade are very different creatures. Compared to the Soul’s roomy and spacious interior, the Renegade has a tight backseat and less cargo than one would expect from a Jeep. However, both vehicles feature solid infotainment systems, with the Soul offering Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone integration standard. The Renegade also offers these features as optional upgrades.
While both the Soul and the Renegade feature cutting-edge tech and exceptional design, the Soul pulls clearly ahead of the Renegade in nearly every aspect.
